The Monon Railroad operated a number of 40' box cars carrying the High Speed Merchandise Herald during the 1950's and 1960's. These cars were dedicated to transporting less than carload (LCL) general freight shippments serving the Monon's network of on line frieght houses located throughout Indiana, as well as Lousiville, Kentucky and Chicago, Illinois. When the LCL business dwindled these cars were moved in regular freight service.
